DONE DEAL: McLoughlin, an Aston Villa midfielder, has signed a permanent deal with Rangers.
Olivia McLoughlin, a midfielder for Aston Villa, has joined Rangers permanently on a free transfer. Not too long ago, the Gers posted the announcement on their official club website. When the 19-year-old’s contract at Aston Villa expires on July 1, 2024, she will formally join the Ibrox club. She has committed to the Rangers for two years.
This season, McLoughlin was on loan at Rangers for the second half. She played a regular role in the team and contributed to the first-ever Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup victory for the team. In addition, the midfield player scored in The Gers’ victory over Partick Thistle in the final to win the Sky Sports Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup. McLoughlin has accomplished enough to gain the respect of head coach Jo Potter and land a long-term contract north of the border.
Following her agreement to join the Rangers permanently, McLoughlin exclaimed, “I’m really excited.” The next several years, in my opinion, are going to be extremely important, and I’m excited to start playing for a team like Rangers. “My choice to stay has been greatly aided by my experience here on loan, where I’m thoroughly enjoying myself while playing and contributing to the club. Being so far from home was weighing heavily on my thoughts, but it’s easier when you have supportive teammates around you.
“I believe that obtaining awards is really important to me and the team. We’re hoping to win more games the following season. McLoughlin has been with Aston Villa for four years. She departs from the Barclays Women’s Super League team, having participated in 42 games across all leagues.
