BREAKING NEWS: U-turn on Newcastle United transfer confirmed as medical work gets underway

The former defender for Manchester City has rejected a transfer to Chelsea in favor of Newcastle United. After Chelsea thwarted Newcastle United’s attempt to sign the out-of-contract defender, Tosin Adarabioyo is currently having his physical. The Fulham center back’s contract was tabled, and the Magpies were the obvious favorites to sign him as early as last week. It’s true that Eddie Howe and the club’s initiative impressed Adarabioyo.

Nevertheless, the move stalled due to Chelsea’s approach. The 26-year-old then made the decision to accept the Blues’ offer over the weekend. The 26-year-old will sign a long-term contract after completing his medical, according to Sky Sports News. Given that Adarabioyo’s ACL injury prevented Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles from playing until later in the season, Adarabioyo would have probably started for Newcastle. But Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Wesley Fofana are fierce rivals at Chelsea.

But with Lloyd Kelly due to sign a free agency contract this summer after leaving AFC Bournemouth in the next few weeks, Newcastle should be able to sign at least one this summer. Eddie Howe recruited the former England under-21 international from Bristol City in 2019, and he is well-known to the manager for his versatility as a left or center back. He captained the Cherries during their 2021–22 promotion back to the Premier League, and he has made 141 appearances for the team.
